Dax Whitney Named To CBHOF Pitcher Of The Year Watch List
March 11, 2026 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State sophomore Dax Whitney has been named to the initial watch list for the 2026 National Pitcher of the Year honor, the College Baseball Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
Whitney is on the watch list for good reason. The righty is 2-0 with a 1.11 earned run average over his first four starts. He leads the nation with 45 strikeouts, which included a program-tying 17 in seven innings against Baylor on Feb. 20.
Whitney has allowed just 12 hits while issuing eight walks over those 24 1/3 innings. Opponents are batting .146 against him.
The Blackfoot, Idaho native is looking to become the third Beaver to earn the honor, following Cooper Hjerpe in 2022 and Luke Heimlich in 2018.
The Beavers hit the road for an eight-game road trip that starts Friday in San Diego. The Beavers and Toreros get underway from Fowler Park at 6 p.m. PT. The game will air live on the Beaver Sports Network and ESPN+.
