Beavers Earn Hard-Fought Win Over LBSU

The long ball once again set an early tone for Oregon State's offense, as Tristian Thompson hit her first of the season, a solo shot in the first, and Paige Bambarger hit her first of the year – also a solo shot – in the second. Both Thompson and Bambarger finished 2-3, with Bambarger later adding an RBI double.
Taking a one-run deficit into the third inning, Oregon State's bats came alive to plate five runners, turning a 2-3 deficit into a 7-3 advantage. Jada Lewis and Jaeya Butler led the inning off with back-to-back singles before Thompson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A pair of fielder's choices then plated two more with Bambarger then smacking a double down the line. A Kaylie Stauffer groundout and LBSU defensive error plated the final two scores of the inning.
OSU made several highlight reel plays on Sunday. Lici Campbell dove into foul territory from first base to make a catch and freshman Alliyah Rodriguez, starting her second game of the opening weekend, had a pair of diving catches at short – the second of which included a throw to first that caught a runner for an inning-ending double play; Lewis later added an incredible sliding grab out in left field.
With two more runs in the fifth after a Rodriguez sacrifice fly and Morgan Howey scoring on a wild pitch, the Beavers were able to stave off the hosts' late comeback attempt to win the game 9-8.
Kimberlee Aleman started and went 6.2 innings in the circle, allowing 15 hits and striking out one; Bailey Murray came on in relief to get the last out, throwing just three pitches before a Long Beach State groundout ended the game.
Beaver softball returns to action next weekend in San Diego, competing in the Campbell Cartier Classic hosted by San Diego State.
