Beavers Drop Pair of Games to Open Campbell Cartier Classic
February 13, 2026 | Softball
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Oregon State softball lost a pair of heartbreakers to open the 2026 Campbell Cartier Classic, falling 5-2 in extra innings to Fordham before seeing a three-run lead slip away in the fifth during a 5-4 loss to Baylor.
Game one: Fordham 5, Oregon State 2 (final/eight innings)
The Beavers' first game of the day was a battle that took extra innings to complete. After a scoreless first four innings, Fordham took a lead in the fifth that was quickly countered by Jaeya Butler in the sixth, who hit the first pitch of her at bat over the wall in center field for her fifth home run of the season.
Finishing the day 2-4 with two RBI after an RBI single in the eighth inning, Butler was one of two Beavers with two or more hits as Mya Harrison started and posted the first multi-hit performance of her career with a pair of infield singles.
After a solid first seven innings of work, Fordham scored four in the eighth that was too much to overcome as the Rams were victorious. Kimberlee Aleman allowed 10 hits and three earned runs across seven innings of work, striking out one on 82 total pitches. Bailey Murray pitched one inning and allowed two hits.
Game two: Baylor 5, Oregon State 4
Butler continued to see the ball well against Baylor, coming a home run shy of the cycle with a 3-4 performance, also scoring two runs. Morgan Howey had a pair of RBI singles in the third and fifth inning to finish the game 2-3; Tristian Thompson's sacrifice fly opened the game's scoring before Madison Weir doubled that lead with an RBI single up the middle in the first inning.
Oregon State led for the majority of this one, taking a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, but Baylor responded with a huge fifth that included an RBI single and three-run home run to make it 5-4.
The Beavers appeared to position themselves to tie the game in the seventh after Harrison walked to lead off the inning, but a fielder's choice that saw her advance safely to second was called back after a review ruled she left early.
Amelia Streuber struck out three in 5.1 innings of work, making her third start and fifth total appearance of the season, and Bailey Murray didn't allow a hit across 0.2 innings of work late in the contest.
Oregon State softball continues the Campbell Cartier Classic with a pair of games against North Dakota and hosts San Diego State tomorrow; the tournament comes to a close Sunday at 12:30 with a lone game against SDSU on Sunday.
