Beavers Fall to No. 6 Gonzaga

CORVALLIS  – The Oregon State men's basketball team fell to No. 6 Gonzaga 81-61 Saturday evening at Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers trailed by four after a tightly contested first half, and kept the game close until the Bulldogs pulled away down the stretch. The game was played before a crowd of 7,865.

Isaiah Sy led the Beavers with 13 points on 3-for-6 shooting from the floor. Dez White had 12 points and six assists. Yaak Yaak returned to the floor after missing the prior three games, scoring 11 points on 3-for-4 shooting off the bench. Josiah Lake II had eight points and a team-high four rebounds.

As a team, the Beavers shot 44.2 percent from the floor in the game, including 54.5 percent in the first half.

Graham Ike paced Gonzaga, scoring 35 points on 13-for-18 shooting.

With the defeat, the Beavers return to .500 with a record of 13-13 on the season. Oregon State is 6-7 in West Coast Conference play.

The teams traded punches early on, with Gonzaga leading 8-7 at the game's first media timeout. The Oregon State defense locked in from there, holding the Bulldogs scoreless for a four-minutes stretch to open up a 14-10 advantage.

The back-and-forth affair continued throughout the opening frame, as the teams were tied at 34 with 2:30 to go before the break. The Bulldogs headed to the intermission leading 38-34. White led the Beavers with 10 first-half points.

Gonzaga extended the advantage to nine early in the second, but Oregon State battled back to get within four. The Bulldogs used a 15-3 run to take control, claiming the win by 20.

The Beavers will hit the road next week to take on San Francisco and Seattle U.
