Kleinschmit, Whitney Named To Golden Spikes Preseason Watch List
February 06, 2026 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State left-handed pitcher Ethan Kleinschmit and right-hander Dax Whitney have each been named to the Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list, USA Baseball announced Friday.
The duo are on the watch list following preseason All-America honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) earlier Friday. The two have been named preseason All-Americans four times thus far.
The Beavers are one of 13 teams with at least two players selected to the initial Golden Spikes Award watch list.
Whitney struck out 120 last season, which is the most nationally by a returning pitcher this season. He went 6-3 with a 3.40 earned run average last season, doing so in 76 2/3 innings.
The Blackfoot, Idaho native was named a Third-Team All-American by D1Baseball.com after the season.
Kleinschmit went 8-5 with a 3.56 ERA a year ago, striking out 113 in 91 innings of work. He was chosen as a Third-Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
The Beavers' 2026 opener is slated for Feb. 13 against Michigan in Surprise, Ariz. Tickets for Oregon State's four games in Arizona can be found at surprisestadium.com/events/college-baseball.
