Oregon State Notables
• Oregon State is playing its 117th season opener on Friday. The Beavers are 84-32 in openers, including a 24-7 mark in neutral sites.
• The Beavers are opening in Surprise for the 12th consecutive season. Oregon State is 10-1 in the previous 11 openers there.
• The Beavers are 58-9 in Surprise since 2015.
• Oregon State is meeting Michigan for the sixth time, and has a 5-0 record against the Wolverines. The teams last met in 2024 when the Beavers were 11-1 winners in a matchup in Arlington, Texas. OSU has out-scored Michigan, 43-9, over the first five meetings.
• Both Mitch Canham and Joey Wong were on the roster - and starting at catcher and second base, respectively - when the 2007 Beavers downed Michigan in two games to win the Corvallis Super Regional.
• Canham begins his seventh season leading the program. He has won 40 or more games in four consecutive seasons. The team's 48 wins last season tied for the most under Canham, equaling the 2022 Beavers.
• Canham has 224 wins in the six previous seasons, an average of 37 a year even with the Covid-19 shortened 2020 season.
• Oregon State is ranked in at least one preseason top-25 poll for the fifth straight year.
• Dax Whitney led all freshman with 120 strikeouts last season. He's the nation's leading returner from last season.
• OSU's 676 strikeouts as a team last season set the program record. It eclipsed the 2022 club, which had 628.
• The Beavers hit 107 home runs a season ago, second-most in a single season by an OSU team. Twenty-five of those 107 home runs return, led by Jacob Krieg's 14. Krieg has 24 home runs as a Beaver and is three shy of moving into the top-10 for a career at Oregon State.
• Oregon State went 12-5-1 in neutral-site games last season and is 47-17-1 overall under Canham.
• The Beavers are also 39-10 under Canham in the month of February. Five of those losses came in 2020 in Canham's first season leading the program.
