Oregon State Beavers vs Weber State
Date: Sunday, Aug. 17
Time: 12 p.m.
Location: Paul Lorenz Field – Corvallis, Ore.

A B1G POINT:
OSU opened its 2025 campaign with a 1-1 draw at Washington. With Thursday's result against the Huskies, Oregon State earned a result on the road against a Big Ten opponent for the first time in nearly a decade, a streak that dates to Sept. 9, 2016, when the Beavs defeated Michigan State, 2-1, in overtime.
NEW TEAM, SAME RIVAL:
A junior from Queen Creek, Ariz., Nathalie Lewis scored in her OSU debut, starting and finishing with two shots on goal across 82 minutes played. Having played two seasons at Washington State prior to transferring in, Lewis had experience against the Huskies, playing 45 minutes in Seattle as a freshman before finding the net as a junior for the Beavs.
DEBUTANTS:
Lewis, Adele Schwab, Emily Ibsen and Abbi Leonard all started in their Oregon State debuts, with Hailey Martinez, Avery Pleiman and London Tsuma coming off the bench in their first appearances at the collegiate level. Schwab tied for the team lead in shots with two across 74 minutes played, while Ibsen and Leonard helped the Beavs hold Washington to just four shots on goal in the 1-1 draw.
EXTRA PRESSURE:
Not only was Leonard's debut her first appearance as a Beav, it was also her first as a collegiate athlete, as the redshirt freshman didn't make any appearances at for a Grand Canyon side that played for the Western Athletic Conference championship in 2024. Prior to her year at GCU, Leonard was a standout for the two-time Utah 5A state champion Skyline Eagles, also captaining Utah Avalanche ECNL on the club circuit.
ALL-OVER:
Now in her senior season as a Beav, Megin Turi has played all over the pitch during her collegiate career. Currently listed as both a forward and defender, she started her career as an outside back before primarily playing as a winger last season. On Thursday at Washington, Turi had moved yet again, starting in the middle of the Beaver backline as a center back alongside Leonard and Emily Ibsen.
After going the full 90 last night, she has now played exactly 2,700 minutes for Oregon State with four goals and two assists to her credit.
LONG AWAITED:
Sawyer Service started and also went the full 90 at Washington, marking a triumphant return to the pitch for OSU's redshirt senior midfielder. After suffering an injury in the spring of 2024, Service missed all of last season, meaning it was some 650 days between competitive appearances, last suiting up in a 2-0 win over Oregon on Nov. 3, 2023.
SHE'S NO. 1:
Though she made just three in the game, Mya Sanchez had multiple game-deciding saves against UW, deflecting a shot off the woodwork in a one-on-one situation early in the second half before flying through the air to stop a shot from distance in the 79th minute. An All-WCC Honorable Mention selection in 2024, the Turlock, Calif., native was recently named Preseason All-WCC.
FIRST OF MANY:
Head Coach Caroline Kelly added two new assistant coaches and a director of operations this offseason, all of whom coached in their first games as a Beaver against Washington.
Kwame Oduro spent his previous 10 seasons leading the St. Bonaventure men's soccer program, where the Bonnies won 49 games, had six Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selections, two United Soccer Coaches All-Region honorees and four A-10 Academic selections, while having nine players go on to sign professional contracts and several others earn professional trials.
Paige Brandt coached at WestCliff University and Long Beach City College before Oregon State, where she developed Kayli Cokley, who ranked No. 1 in the NAIA for goals against average (0.14) and No. 2 for save percentage (.938) during the 2024 season. With LBCC, she helped Abraham Ramirez to South Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and MVP honors after posting 0.77 goals against average, while Jackie Garibay allowed an average of just 0.63 goals per game, also earning South Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
Originally from Hillsboro, Ore., Ella Smith played at St. Bonaventure for three seasons where she was a two-time Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree, and will work toward a master's degree while serving as the team's director of operations.
BEAVS IN THE PROS:
With Katie Godden (Charlton Athletic / England) and McKenna Martinez (Valadares Gaia / Portugal) each signing professional contracts after the conclusion of last season, Oregon State has officially sent six players into the professional ranks across the last four seasons. Led off by Laura Galceran and Bridgette Skiba in 2021, Reese Moffatt signed a deal in 2022 before Hailey Coll in 2023 and both Godden and Martinez in 2024.
In total, there are currently 10 former Beavers active in the professional ranks, playing in countries such as Portugal, Norway, Spain, England, Mexico and the United States; this list is highlighted by Bella Bixby (née Geist), who currently plays for the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), but also includes Kate Evans (West Brom), Emma Jones (Portsmouth) and Greta Espinoza (Tigres).
BACK THE PAC:
Oregon State will play its final season in the West Coast Conference this fall before returning to Pac-12 play in 2026. All eight of the conference's other members, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State and Washington State, sponsor women's soccer, each bringing a high level of talent to the conference. Utah State is the reigning Mountain West Tournament Champion, also winning the conference tournament in 2023, while Boise State was crowned regular season champion in 2024 after San Diego State was crowned regular season champions the year prior. Texas State is coming off a 12-win season that ended with a 3-2 loss in the Sun Belt Championship while Gonzaga was recently picked to finish third in the WCC.
