Beavers Battle In Final Round at NCAA Norman Regional
May 07, 2025 | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. – The Oregon State women's golf team battled rainy and windy conditions but finished just outside the coveted top five at the NCAA Division I Regionals on Wednesday.
The Beavers finished seventh in the 12-team field with an 18-over 295-290-297—882 at the par-72, 6,445-yard Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, which ended another spectacular season under head coach Dawn Shockley.
The top five teams advanced to the NCAA National Championships, which are scheduled for May 16-21 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. The teams advancing are Stanford (-23), Northwestern (-14), Michigan State (-1), Oklahoma (E) and Baylor (+3).
The NCAA Norman Regional was scheduled to be played over three days with 18 holes per day, but inclement weather in the area forced a change to 36 holes Monday, a delay of nearly seven hours Tuesday and the final holes Wednesday.
Kyra Ly – t14 (+1, 75-71-71—217)
A native of Portland, Ly capped a sensational junior campaign with a Top 15 finish at the NCAA Regionals that included two under-par scores to increase her career total to 32. She had eight birdies and nothing worse than a bogey over the three rounds on a challenging course in difficult conditions.
Ly was named the WCC Player of the Year in a season when she had five Top 10 finishes, including her first career individual title at the Causeway Invitational. She set three Oregon State records at the Causeway Invitational – best single-round score: 7-under 65 (previous record was 6-under 66 by Nicole Schroeder {twice}, Olivia Benzin, Ellie Slama); best 36-hole score: 13-under 131; best three-round score: 16-under 200 (previous record was 11-under 205 by Ellie Slama).
Ly's scoring average this season of 71.88 is the best in Oregon State history, bettering the 72.05 that Raya Nakao posted last season. Her eight career Top 10 finishes are tied for the eighth most in program history.
Rebecca Kim – t29 (+5, 73-72-76—221)
Kim has continued to improve over her two years at Oregon State and played exceptionally at the NCAA Regionals with nine birdies. The 5-over 221 is her second best three-round score as a sophomore, just off the 3-over 219 she posted at the Causeway Invitational.
A native of South Surrey, B.C., Kim had a scoring average this season of 76.43, two strokes better than the 78.43 she posted last year as a true freshman.
Raya Nakao – t29 (+5, 73-73-75—221)
Nakao, a native of Kaneohe, Hawai'i, continues to be one of the most consistent and best golfers in Oregon State history. She was steady throughout the tournament with three birdies and only eight bogeys over the 54 holes.
She was selected to the 10-member WCC All-Conference Team and recorded four Top 10 finishes, including the individual title at the WCC Championship where she won in a two-hole playoff. She had nine under-par scores with a career-best 6-under 66 in the first round of the WCC Championship.
Nakao's current career scoring average of 72.22 is the best in Oregon State history, as Ellie Slama holds the record with a 72.95.
Madde Sund – t36 (+7, 74-74-75—223)
Sund has had four outstanding years at Oregon State and had by far her best season as a senior with a scoring average of 73.78 and a Top 10 finish at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational. She had eight birdies at the NCAA Regionals and was steady throughout the tournament.
She competed at the NCAA Regionals each of her four years and played twice at the NCAA National Championships. She has a career scoring average of 75.21 with 16 sub-par scores.
Clara Alevag – 58 (+15, 80-75-76—231)
A true freshman, Alevag played in all but one tournament and finished the season with a scoring average of 76.27 with two under-par scores. The Gothenburg, Sweden native bounced back after a tough opening round at the NCAA Regionals to post two solid scores.
She'll continue to improve at Oregon State and be a force in the lineup for the next three years.
