Beavers In Third Place With One Round To Play At NCAA Regionals

STANFORD, Calif. – Kate Nakaoka fired a 1-under 70 for the second-straight day to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the second round of the NCAA Division I Regionals on Tuesday.

The Beavers sit in third place through 36 holes with a 4-under 279-285—564 at the par-71, 6,267-yard Stanford Golf Course with the final round scheduled for Wednesday.

The NCAA Stanford Regional includes 12 teams and six individuals. The top five teams and low individual not on an advancing team after Wednesday's final round will earn a trip to the NCAA National Championships, scheduled for May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

Holding down the coveted top five spots are: Stanford (26-under 542), Pepperdine (7-under 561), Oregon State (4-under 564), Vanderbilt (3-over 571) and Arizona State (4-over 572). Missouri is two strokes back of fifth place with a 6-over 574.

The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and live scoring is available at this link. Oregon State will start on the first hole at 8 a.m. and be paired with Stanford and Pepperdine.

Nakaoka, a true freshman from Mililani, Hawai'i, was 2 over through the first six holes but caught fire the rest of the way with three birdies and nine pars for a 1-under 70. She also posted a 1-under 70 in the opening round when she finished with five birdies and four bogeys.

Selected to the WCC All-Conference Team as a freshman, Nakaoka has 11 sub-par scores in her 35 rounds this season. Her best career score is a 4-under 68 at the PING/ASU Invitational earlier this spring.

Raya Nakao, a junior from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, was steady throughout the second with two birdies and two bogeys for an even-par 71. She had three birdies and two bogeys in the first round for a 1-under 70. A two-time All-WCC selection, Nakao has shot par or better in 14 of her 35 rounds this season.

Rebecca Kim, a junior from South Surrey, B.C., started the second round strong with two birdies in the first four holes that helped her post a 1-over 72. She opened the regional with a 1-under 70, her third career collegiate score in red figures.

Kyra Ly, a senior from Portland and All-America selection last year, posted a 1-over 72 for the second-straight day that included three birdies each round.

Kelly Hope, who led the Beavers with a 2-under 69 on the first day, finished the middle round of the tournament with a 6-over 77.
