Beavers In Second Place After Day One At NCAA Regionals
May 11, 2026 | Women's Golf
STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon State women's golf team got off to a hot start at the NCAA Division I Regionals, shooting a season-best 5-under 279, to put them in second place after the first round on Monday.
Â
Kelly Hope, Rebecca Kim, Kate Nakaoka and Raya Nakao all posted sub-par scores to open the NCAA Stanford Regional, leading an Oregon State team that rolled in 20 total birdies.
Â
The Beavers carded the 5-under 279 at the par-71, 6,267-yard Stanford Golf Course to better the previous season best of 4-under 280 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tenn., this past fall.
Â
Only three teams finished the first round of the NCAA Stanford Regional in red figures – No. 1 Stanford (9-under 275), No. 50 Oregon State (5-under 279) and No. 11 Pepperdine (1-under 283).
Â
The NCAA Stanford Regional includes 12 teams and six individuals. The top five teams and low individual not on an advancing team after Wednesday's final round will earn a trip to the NCAA National Championships, scheduled for May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Â
The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and live scoring is available at this link. Oregon State will start on the first hole at 8 a.m. and be paired with Stanford and Pepperdine.
Â
Hope, a junior from Pretoria, South Africa, led the Beavers with a 2-under 69, the second time she's carded an under-par score during her collegiate career. Her best career score at Oregon State is a 3-under 69 at the Leadership and Golf Invitational as a sophomore.
Â
After a par on the first hole, Hope had birdies on the par-4 second and par-3 third holes. She added birdies on the eighth and 13th holes, to go with two bogeys, for her team-best 2-under 69.
Â
Kim, Nakaoka and Nakao all finished with a 1-under 70.
Â
A junior from South Surrey, B.C., Kim had five birdies, tied for the second most in the 68-player field, to post her third career collegiate score in red figures. She recorded a career-best 3-under 69 at the Causeway Invitational as a sophomore and added a 2-under 70 at the WCC Championship later that spring.
Â
Nakaoka, a true freshman from Mililani, Hawai'i, equaled Kim with five birdies to shoot a 1-under 70. It's the 10th time as a freshman that she has finished with a sub-par score with the best being a 4-under 68 at the PING/ASU Invitational earlier this spring.
Â
Nakao, a junior from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, bounced back after opening the tourney with back-to-back bogeys with three birdies and 13 pars for her 1-under 70. The All-WCC golfer now has 35 scores in red figures during her three years at Oregon State.
Â
Senior Kyra Ly, a native of Portland, had three birdies but took two bogeys and a double to finish the opening round with a 1-over 72. She started last year's NCAA Regionals with a 3-over 75 but responded with a pair of 1-under 71's to finish in a tie for 14th place.
Â
Emma Bunch, competing as an individual for New Mexico State, tops the leaderboard with a 7-under 64 heading into Tuesday's second round.
