STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon State women's golf team advanced to the NCAA National Championships for the fourth time in program history after finishing in third place at the NCAA Division I Regionals on Wednesday.
It's the third time in the last four years Oregon State has earned a trip to the NCAA National Championships, all under head coach Dawn Shockley. The Beavers advanced to the NCAA National Championships one time in their first 47 years (1998).
The Beavers concluded the three-day, 54-hole NCAA Stanford Regional in third place with a 2-over 279-285-290—854 at the par-71, 6,267-yard Stanford Golf Course.
The top five teams at the NCAA Stanford Regional received an invitation to the NCAA National Championships, which are scheduled for May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Joining Oregon State from the NCAA Stanford Regional are Stanford (42-under 810), Pepperdine (4-under 848), Arizona State (4-over 856) and Missouri (8-over 860).
Raya Nakao led the Beavers with a tie for 10th place finish after shooting a 2-under 70-71-70—211. It's her fifth Top 10 finish this season, tied for the third most in Oregon State history, and the 13th of her three-year collegiate career.
Nakao had nine birdies over the three rounds of the regional and nothing worse than a bogey. She now has 36 sub-par scores as a collegian.
True freshman Kate Nakaoka was steady throughout the three-day regional, posting an even-par 70-70-73—213 to finish in 14th place. She equaled Nakao with nine birdies and has recorded 11 scores in red figures during her freshman campaign.
Rebecca Kim carded a career-best three-round score with a 2-over 70-72-73—215 to finish in a tie for 18th place. Her previous best three-round score was a 3-over 219 as a sophomore at the Causeway Invitational. She also rolled in nine birdies, including five in the first round when she fired a season-best 1-under 70.
Kyra Ly finished in a tie for 26th place with a 5-over 72-72-74—218 that included six birdies, all in the first two rounds. The senior will be making her third trip to the NCAA National Championships, the most by any Oregon State golfer in history.
Kelly Hope carded a season-best 2-under 69 in the first round that helped her finish in 34th place with a 7-over 69-77-74—220. The 7-over 220 is Hope's best three-round score of the season and just shy of her career-best 6 over at the Leadership and Golf Invitational last year.
The NCAA National Championships include 30 teams and six individuals completing 54 holes of stroke play. The top 15 teams, along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team, then compete for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match play competition and the 72-hole stroke play individual champion.
The top eight teams then compete in match play with the team national championship to be decided on Wednesday, May 27.
The Beavers finished 16th at the NCAA National Championships in 1998, tied for 22nd in 2023 and 22nd in 2024.
