Men’s Rowing Sweeps Head-to-Head Races Against Holy Cross
May 03, 2025 | Men's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Oregon State men's rowing was in action this weekend, competing across two days in a regatta that featured Penn, Holy Cross and Cornell, taking home three wins – all of which came against Holy Cross on Saturday.
"This trip is the best way to end our regular season. It's a lot of travel across the country but the team handled it well," Head Coach Gabe Winkler said. "These are some great teams but we raced well. Taking the three races against Holy Cross was incredible since they are a fast team.
"We started this 'tradition' 4 years ago, after I called the head coach of Cornell, Todd Kennet, who was also my coach at Cornell. We thought it would be a fun idea to have four teams race each other in a weekend," Winkler added. "Along with Penn and Holy Cross, this means intense competition. On to the Championships!"
The action got underway on Friday, as each of the team's three boats in action went up against boats from No. 8 Penn, as the Beavs finished in third, second and second, respectively.
On Saturday, OSU made some noise in the morning, winning all three races against Holy Cross. After a five second margin of victory in the 3V8, the Beavers went sub-six for the second and first, posting times of 5:54.93 (2V8+) and 5:48.6 (1V8+).
Racing concluded with a trio of matchups against No. 14 Cornell, with second place finishes in all three.
