
Beavers Blow By Catamounts

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team got back on a winning track with an 80-58 victory over Vermont Wednesday evening at Gill Coliseum.
The Beavers shot 50 percent overall and 50 percent from 3-point range, as they led by as many as 25 and never trailed in the contest. Josiah Lake II paced OSU with 18 points, hitting four of his five 3-point attempts. Dez White scored 14 points to go with four assists.
Olavi Suutela filled the stat-sheet, going for 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Malcolm Christie hit four 3-pointers to end his day with 12 points.
Oregon State held Vermont to 35 percent shooting in the contest, and held the Catamounts to 24 first-half points.
Oregon State scored the first six points of the game, top jump out to an early lead. The Beavers followed that up with an 8-0 run to bring the advantage to 16 mid-way through the first half. OSU again scored eight unanswered to open up a 20-point advantage late in the first half.
Oregon State headed to the intermission leading 42-24. The Beavers shot 54.2 percent in the opening period, compared to 31.0 percent for the Catamounts.
The Beavers maintained control in the second half, carrying an 18-point advantage into the first media break of the frame. OSU extended the lead to 25 with 12 minutes to play, but a 9-0 Vermont run put the Catamounts back within 16.
Vermont cut the lead to 17 down the stretch, but never got any closer, as Oregon State claimed the win by 22.
The Beavers will be back at Gill Coliseum Saturday when Southern Utah visits Corvallis.
