Defensive Effort Leads to Gritty, Tough Win
November 10, 2025 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Tiara Bolden scored 23 points and Oregon State shot 51 percent from the floor to defeat Air Force 60-49 Monday night at Gill Coliseum.
Oregon State (2-0) dominated inside with a 28-12 advantage in points in the paint and controlled the boards 43-27, offsetting possessions where Air Force's pressure defense forcing 21 turnovers. The Beavs held the Falcons to 27.7 percent shooting and no Air Force player shot better than 40 percent from the floor.
"That was a gritty, tough win. I'm proud of our team for finding a way," Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck said. "Give Air Force a ton of credit. They're super scrappy, athletic, quick. Tonight was a great reminder of what it takes [to win]."
OSU seized control early, jumping out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter behind efficient shooting. Oregon State made 7-of-12 shots in the opening period, including 3-of-6 from three-point range. Bolden scored 10 of the Beavs' first 13.
The Beavers extended their lead to 32-20 at halftime and never trailed. OSU led for 39:48 in total. The Falcons pulled within three points midway through the third quarter before Oregon State responded with a 9-0 run out of a timeout to reset the lead. Lara Alonso-Basurto, Ally Schimel and Bolden combined for the nine points.
Alonso posted her second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, becoming the first Oregon State freshman to record double-doubles in her first two games since at least the 1998-99 season.
Kennedie Shuler distributed eight assists while adding five points. Dating back to last season, Monday was Shuler's third consecutive game and fourth in her last five with at least five assists.
Schimel knocked down 4-of-6 from beyond the arc to finish with 12 points for the Beavers. Néné Sow contributed five points and nine rebounds. The 6-foot-8 senior was a major part of holding the Falcons to 12 points in the paint, deterring Air Force with size and positioning.
The Beavers battle their first power conference foe of the 2025-26 season when Illinois comes to Corvallis on Friday at 6 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets at beavertickets.com
