September 03, 2024 | Wrestling
PONTEVEDRA, Spain – Winning by fall, Aden Attao clinched the bronze medal at the U20 Wrestling World Championships on Tuesday.
Attao needed just shy of three minutes (2:46) to collect the win clinching the medal. Down early, he emphatically pinned his opponent – second-ranked Aleksandr Melekhov – for the win by fall.
Despite falling in the opening rounds on Monday, Attao worked his way through the repechage, tallying two wins – one by VSU – to secure his place in the medal match. His first win yesterday was a strong one, at 8-0 (VSU) over Puerto Rico's Ethan Vergara in just under 50 seconds before defeating Cemal Bakir of Turkey.
Earlier this summer, Attao won his second consecutive Pan-American championship at 130 kg.
