Oregon State Q&A with Amanda Burns

Amanda Burns is a rising senior on the Oregon State volleyball team and a native of Manhattan Beach, California. A setter, she had a career-best 37 assists in a sweep at California last season and achieved 10 double-doubles.

Burns participated in a Q&A with OSUBeavers.com and here's what she said:

Do you remember the first time you stepped on the Oregon State campus and what it meant to you?
AB: The first time I stepped on the campus I was on a visit, and it felt like home!
Â
When did you know you wanted to be a student-athlete at the college level? What drew you to it?
AB: I always loved playing volleyball from a young age, my mom played Division I volleyball and I always looked up to her and knew I wanted to do the same.
Â
What's one thing you wish more people knew about your sport and what it takes to be competitive?
AB: It's difficult to take it to the next level, there are so many talented girls in the sport.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be and why?
AB: I would change the rule of no blocking a serve.
Â
What does it mean to you to wear the Orange and Black?
AB: I love wearing Orange and Black as I am very proud to be a Beaver and be a part of this team.
Â
If you could pick any other sport to play, what would it be and why?
AB: I would play tennis! I played up until going to high school and always loved it.
Â
What drives you to succeed?
AB: Goals help drive me to succeed.
Â
What makes you want to be successful off the field? What drives your success in the classroom?
AB: What helps to drive me in the classroom is goals I set for my life after college which helps me push harder in school.
Â
If you could have dinner with three athletes, dead or alive, who would they be?
AB: Kobe Bryant, Rodger Federer and Simone Biles

Who did you look up to growing up? What made you look up to them?
AB: I looked up to my mom, I always wanted to be just like her.
Â
Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
AB: In 20 years, I see myself hopefully as a real estate agent in Southern California.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given? And who gave it to you?
AB: I don't know if I have one piece of advice I ever think back on, but I liked to listen to Kobe Bryant talk when I need some inspiration.

What kind of mark do you want to leave from your time in Corvallis?

AB: I want to leave this team as someone who embodied our family culture and was a good teammate on and off the court.

Name your top three things to do in Oregon when you're not playing or studying.
AB: Adventure around the different hikes, paint, and spend time with friends.

What are your favorite topping(s) on a hot dog?
AB: I don't like hot dogs.

How about ice cream. What do you have to put on it?
AB: I need sprinkles.

Your preferred pre-competition meal?
AB: Before a game a chicken sandwich and an iced latte or some energy drink.
