
Hester, Rumel Earn WCC Preseason Honors

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Two Oregon State volleyball players - Annika Hester and Lauren Rumel - were selected to the West Coast Conference's Preseason team and the Beavers were picked to finish fourth in the league, the WCC announced Friday.
Hester, a senior opposite, joined Oregon State in the offseason after three years at WCC opponent San Diego. With the Toreros in 2023, the Falmouth, Maine product recorded 40 kills and put up 50.5 points. On the defensive end, she tallied nine digs and blocked 21. Last August against Tennessee, Hester had a season-bests in both kills (11) and digs (3).
Rumel, a junior outside hitter, is entering her second year in Corvallis in 2024. The Tucson, Ariz. native appeared in every set of the 2023 season and led the Beavers in service aces with 23, including three in a four-set win at Washington. Helping lead the offense, she completed last season with the fourth-most kills on the Beavers (182) and reached a career-best mark of 14 on two occasions. Defensively, she tallied 78 blocks and dug out 64 times, including match-bests of eight digs and seven blocks.
Oregon State received 70 points in the preseason coaches poll and placed fourth, tied with Pacific. The Beavers' 2024 season gets underway next week against Fresno State in Phoenix at the GCU Invitational and the first league match is slated for September 26th against Pepperdine inside Gill Coliseum.
