CORVALLIS, Ore. – Epitomizing student-athletes, a pair of Oregon State wrestlers added additional academic honors for their work in the classroom this past school year. Brandon Kaylor and Gabe Whisenhunt were selected to College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District At-Large Team.
Kaylor, a recent graduate with a Master of Business Administration, closed his decorated career at the 125-pound class with a fourth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships which included an All-American finish in 2022. He posted five finishes inside the top-three at the Pac-12 championships, including a title after the 2022-23 season.
Whisenhunt, a Corvallis native, completed his second year on campus and is majoring in Business Administration. The 133-pounder made his presence known early on in the season when he garnered Wrestler of the Week honors from both the NCAA and the Pac-12 following his upset win over then-No. 4 in the first weekend of 2023-24.
The duo were also part of a Division I-best nine chosen to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American list.
To be eligible for consideration, each student-athlete must maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade point average as an undergraduate student. For those in graduate programs, they must maintain a 3.50 as both an undergraduate and a graduate.
