2V8 Advances to C Finals, Varsity 8 to D Finals
June 01, 2024 | Men's Rowing
MERCER LAKE, NJ – Oregon State's 2V8 rebounded from an up-and-down first race on Friday to finish third in its semifinal and advance to the C Final on Sunday.
The Beavers outpaced La Salle, Santa Clara and Jacksonville to move on to the C Finals, where they can earn a place between 13th and 18th in the nation on Sunday.
"There are a lot of highs and lows at this regatta. The varsity laid it all out there but unfortunately came up a little short. However, the JV had a spectacular race, crushing the middle 1,000 to establish themselves solidly in the top 3," head coach Gabe Winkler said. "There are a lot of seniors in these boats. The amount of work that they have put in over the past 4 (and even 5 years) is impressive. How many meters to get to this point? Millions, I am sure. Tomorrow caps that off. One more race for those guys."
The Varsity 8 just missed out on its spot in the C Final, being edged by Drexel and La Salle in the race and falling to the D Final. The Beavs will compete for a place between 19th and 24th nationally on Sunday morning.
The 3V8 had the day off, cheering on their teammates before racing in the C Final on Sunday.
