Beavs Add Danish Center Elisa Mehyar
May 29, 2024 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Scott Rueck and Oregon State made another international addition on Wednesday as Danish center Elisa Mehyar signed with the Beavers.
Â
Mehyar's international experience includes time on SISU Copenhagen as well as with Denmark's U18 team at the European Championships in 2022. She will be a true freshman for the 2024-25 season
Â
"We are thrilled that Elisa Mehyar chose to be a Beaver," Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck said. Â "She is an outstanding defender and shot-blocker with tremendous shot-blocking instincts. She has great agility and runs the floor exceptionally well. Elisa has great hands and finishes well around the rim. She will be a perfect fit for our culture, and we are excited that she chose to be a part of Beaver Nation!"
Â
"I chose Oregon State because it is a great fit where I have the perfect opportunity to grow and develop as a basketball player and as a person," Mehyar said. "Everyone I met on my visit were so good to me, and Coach Rueck and his staff helped me feel the family atmosphere immediately."
Â
The incoming freshman brings energy on the glass, grabbing 6.9 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game on the Danish U18 team. Mehyar was second on the team in rebounding, including four-straight games of eight-plus boards in the classification games and group stage. She also blocked two shots per game, led by a five-rejection effort against Romania.
Playing as an amateur with SISU Copenhagen, Mehyar came off the bench and ranked fourth on her team on the glass, grabbing 4.1 boards per game while also ranking second in shot-blocking at 0.7 rejections per game. She shot 46.3 percent from the field.
Â
Mehyar is the third addition to the Oregon State program for 2024-25. She continues a long line of European centers that thrived in Corvallis, including Marie Gulich, Jelena Mitrovic and Joanna Grymek among others.

6'5 Elisa Mehyar out of Denmark is available.
Mehyar is a 6'5 forward/center with an upside and a lot of room for growth. She moves and runs super well for length and has a good timing on both ends of the floor! ?? Reach out! @bballjkey @MarkWilliamsBB pic.twitter.com/frg0yLS86T
