Oregon State’s Comeback Leads To 29th Win Of 2024
April 13, 2024 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jacob Kmatz scattered six hits and a run over six innings and Wilson Weber's fifth-inning single served as the game-winner in No. 5 Oregon State's come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Stanford Saturday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Dallas Macias homered for the second consecutive game as the Beavers claimed the series victory over the Cardinal. Oregon State won its eighth consecutive game, improved to 29-4 on the year, with a 19-0 record at Goss Stadium.
The 29th win of the season came in come-from-behind fashion thanks to a solo home run by the Cardinal's Jimmy Nati to lead off the second. The opposite field long ball, however, was the lone blemish of the night against Kmatz, who ended up with six strikeouts.
The righty and reigning Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week improved to 5-1 this season and has combined to allow 10 hits and two runs over his last 15 innings against Arizona State and Stanford.
Stanford's (13-19, 6-8) Christian Lim held the Beavers scoreless for the first four innings, but gave way to Cardinal reliever Joey Volchko with two on and two down in the fifth. Weber came to the plate and drilled a 1-0 between first and second to drive in two, giving the Beavers the lead for good.
Macias added an insurance run in the seventh when he took a 2-0 offering from Trevor Moore and deposited it over the right field fence. The home run was the fourth of the season for the sophomore and it extended his hit streak to 10 games.
Oregon State managed five hits against the three Stanford pitchers, with Weber accumulating two. OSU walked 12 times.
Bridger Holmes improved to 8-for-8 in save opportunities after stranding a Stanford runner on second base with his fourth strikeout of the night to end the game. He worked 2 1/3 innings in his 13th relief outing of the season.
