March 08, 2024 | Women's Basketball
LAS VEGAS – Oregon State battled a night after going to two overtimes for the first time in Pac-12 Tournament history, but the Beavers weren't able to knock off no. 2 Stanford and fell 66-57 in the semifinals.
Â
The Beavers had four score in double figures, led by Raegan Beers with 17 points. Talia von Oelhoffen and Timea Gardiner each added 11 while Dominika Paurova contributed 10 points to go with six assists and five rebounds.
Â
The first quarter was a dream start for Oregon State. The Beavs led 24-12 at its conclusion behind 10 points from Beers. The sophomore got four off assists from Paurova, who sucked defenders away from Beers before dishing to the wide-open post underneath.
Â
OSU was down 8-4 early before a seven-point spurt from Timea Gardiner led to a 17-2 run to close the period. Gardiner finished with seven rebounds in addition to her 11 points.
Â
The Beavs struggled to score for moments in the second quarter, finishing the period without a basket in the final few minutes, but defense carried the team to halftime with a 35-27 lead. OSU held Stanford to 35.3 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes while keeping Pac-12 Player of the Year to eight points on 3-of-13 shooting.
Â
The Cardinal battled back into it early in the third quarter. Stanford opened the period on a 21-6 run to take a 48-41 lead, finishing the quarter with a 50-43 advantage.
Â
Oregon State got back in the game in the fourth. Von Oelhoffen and Donovyn Hunter hit back-to-back jumpers to pull OSU back within three, but Stanford responded with a run of its own to drag the lead back out to seven and held on to complete the win.
Â
The Beavers now await the verdict of the NCAA Tournament selection committee to learn if they are hosting first and second round games. More information on tickets will be available to the general public at a later date.
