Seven-Run Eighth Sends Oregon State To 12th Straight Win

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Travis Bazzana broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the eighth and Oregon State scored seven runs in the inning en route to an 8-1 win over Utah Saturday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark.
With the win, Oregon State claimed the series and can go for a sweep in the finale on Sunday. OSU (17-1 overall, 2-0 Pac-12 Conference) has also won 12 consecutive games.
The teams battled with a run for the first seven innings, but the Beavers broke the game open in the eighth. Bazzana's two-run double came with one out on a 1-0 offering.
Micah McDowell followed Bazzana with a sacrifice fly to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead. Jacob Krieg then singled home a run, and scored when Dallas Macias drove in two on a triple to right, making it 6-0.
Gavin Turley completed the inning with a single to left for the seven-run lead.
McDowell added his second sac fly in as many innings in the ninth to make it an 8-0 game.
Jacob Kmatz started for the Beavers and worked five full, holding Utah to one hit and three walks with three strikeouts. He was backed by Joey Mundt, Kellan Oakes and Drew Talavs, who combined to hold the Utes to six hits and a run with four strikeouts in four innings.
Oakes picked up the win, improving to 2-0 on the year. He worked two scoreless, striking out three.
Colter McAnelly, the second of five Utah pitchers, took the loss after allowing one run on one hit, a walk and three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. He is 2-2 on the year.
Bazzana led OSU's 12-hit attack with three of his own, including two doubles. Macias and Mason Guerra both had two as the top six batters in the lineup combined to go 10-for-26 with eight RBI.
