
Beavers Fall to Cougs at Gill

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 64-58 game to Washington State Thursday evening at Gill Coliseum.
The Beavers shot 44.9 percent in the contest, compared to 40 percent for the Cougars, and led the game in second chance points, bench points, points in the paint and fast break points.
Jordan Pope finished in double-figures again, going for 12 points on 5-for-11 shooting. Tyler Bilodeau had 11 points and five rebounds, while Michael Rataj hit four of his five shots to end the day with 10 points.
KC Ibekwe had eight points and six rebounds. Josiah Lake II hit two of his three field goal attempts and all three of his free throws to finish with seven points.
The teams traded punches early on, with the Beavers leading 10-9 seven minutes into the contest. Washington State led 20-19 with seven minutes to go before the break.
Neither team led by more than six in the first half, as the Cougars headed to the break in front 27-26. Pope led the Beavers with nine first-half points.
The second half featured more of the same. Oregon State leveled the score at 36 with 14 minutes remaining. The Beavers were able to even things up on a number of occasions, but never retook the lead in the second half as Washington State claimed the victory by six
Neither side led by more than single digits in the contest.
Jaylen Wells paced Washington State with 24 points.
The Beavers will be back at home Saturday to host Washington.
