Beavers Drop Road Game Without Beers
February 25, 2024 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE – Ninth-ranked Oregon State dropped its final conference road game on Sunday, falling 61-51 to Washington without leading scorer and rebounder Raegan Beers.
Timea Gardiner led OSU with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. Dominika Paurova sparked the Beavers with 10 points on multiple runs back into the game, but they weren't enough to overcome miscues and a motivated Washington team on senior day.
The early momentum favored the Huskies with a game-opening 8-0 run forcing an OSU timeout. The Beavs countered with a 5-0 spurt from Lily Hansford and Kelsey Rees, but UW closed the first with a 14-5 lead aided by seven Beaver turnovers.
Hansford was a bright spot for OSU, scoring 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting, all from three, and two free throws.
Oregon State battled back in the second, cutting the deficit to 24-17 at the break. Paurova was crucial in the period, grabbing three offensive rebounds and scoring a team-high six points.
The Huskies answered the second quarter surge with a strong offensive third quarter. UW shot 61.5 percent in the period, scoring 20 points and pushing its lead back out to 11. From there, Washington maintained its advantage through the fourth quarter to finish off its win.
The Beavers return home for two games with huge postseason implications against no. 3 Stanford (7 p.m. – Thursday) and Cal (12 p.m. – Saturday). Fans can get tickets at beavertickets.com.
