Beavers Win Third-Straight with 2-1 Victory at Pacific
October 02, 2024 | Women's Soccer
STOCKTON, Calif. – Scoring early was the name of the game on Wednesday, as Oregon State women's soccer struck early in each half to take a 2-1 victory over Pacific.
A pair of quick goals were key to the Beaver attack, scoring less than two minutes into each half off the boot of Claire Jones and McKenna Martinez. Jones' goal, scored 91 seconds into the game, set a new program record for quickest goal ever scored by a Beaver and second quickest the team has ever found the net, as the 1993 season saw a San Diego State own-goal just 60 seconds in put the Beavers ahead.
Jones found her chance after some nifty one-touch passing by Paola Figueroa and Valerie Tobias, who both were credited with their first assists in 2024. Figueroa, who was credited with an assist on the second goal to finish with two in the game, is now one of nine Beavers to record at least two points this season and is one of four players who have two or more assists.
Martinez's goal came after a nice ball through the Tiger backline by Katie Godden, who has recorded a point in four-consecutive games, which included an assist on Martinez's game-winner against Wyoming on Sept. 19. Godden currently leads the team in assists with three and is second behind Martinez in total points with five.
The Beaver attack was ruthless on Wednesday, creating chance after chance to the tune of 12 shots on goal across 16 total attempts. The last time OSU finished with more than 10 shots on goal in a single match came on Aug. 18, 2022 against Eastern Washington.
Carly Carraher set a new career-high for shots (five) and shots on goal (four), while Mya Sanchez came up big for the Beavers in net, finishing the game with six saves and posting a save percentage of 85.7.
Oregon State returns to action on Saturday, heading to Moraga, Calif., to play St. Mary's. Kickoff against the Gaels is at 4 p.m.
