Vernon Named Jamaican Female Athlete of the Year

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Mychael Vernon was honored as the Female Athlete of the Year for 2023, awarded by the Jamaica Volleyball Association.
During the summer of 2023, Vernon helped make history for her national team, leading Jamaica to their first senior level championship at the CAZOVA Women's Championship. Following the tournament, she garnered many accolades including: Most Valuable Player of the competition, Best Receiver and Best Outside Hitter.
Vernon completed her eligibility with Oregon State following the 2023 season. The Ossining, N.Y. product was an All-Pac-12 honoree behind 428 kills, 21 assists, 15 aces and 305 digs. She finished her career with 1,065 kills, becoming the 17th Beaver to achieve the feat. Additionally, she career-best 26 kills in a September match at Cal Baptist and put up double-digit kills in 24 matches, including in 15 of the last 18 times in 2023.
