Beavs Shutout Tritons in Home Opener
August 24, 2023 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State women's soccer opened their home schedule with a 2-0 victory over UC San Diego on Thursday afternoon at Lorenz Field.
"I was really proud of our effort for the first home match," head coach Lauren Sinacola said. "We were able to play nearly every available player that we had, and I thought they all contributed valuable minutes to the team today.
"It's always nice when you have two players come off the bench and contribute goals for your side. I'm very thankful to Beaver Nation for showing up and contributing to our win this afternoon."
Creating several dangerous attacks in the first half, the Beavs finally broke through in the 44th minute. Off assists from Rin Choi and Valerie Tobias, Maddie Tetz used her right foot to play a beautiful chip shot just inside the 18 into the right upper 90 for her first goal of the season. The goal was the first this season for Tetz and the fourth of her career.
Oregon State broke through again in the 70th minute off an errant Triton pass. McKenna Martinez made a run down the right flank before crossing a ball into Lindsey Antonson, who fed to Tobias, who finished with her left to beat the keeper down the middle.
Tobias entered the match with four career points, and left with seven, after the goal and assist.
It marked the second clean sheet for the Beavs in 2023 as Hailey Coll and Mya Sanchez combined to make a pair of saves and keep UC San Diego off the board.
In total, the Beavs took 15 shots with six on target while UCSD fired 13 with four on goal.
Up next, the Beavs stay home with a matchup against the Pacific Tigers on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. For tickets to Thursday's match, click HERE, or call the Beaver Ticket Office at 1-800-GO-BEAVS.
