Beavs Fall to No. 19 Santa Clara
August 20, 2023 | Women's Soccer
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Oregon State women's soccer fell 4-0 to the No. 19 Santa Clara Broncos on Sunday afternoon at Stevens Stadium.
The Beavs (1-1-0) held the Broncos (2-0-0) scoreless through the first half, despite being outshot 11-3.
Oregon State had their best chance at a first half goal in the final minute, as Claire Jones played a ball in off a Valarie Tobias corner kick, that was bounced around in the box before finding the foot of freshman Mia Erba. Erba's shot would end going right of the net as the horn sounded to end the first half.
Keeper Hailey Coll was forced into just one save in the first half, falling harmlessly on a Santa Clara free kick in the 43rd minute.
However, Santa Clara broke through for three goals in just over 16 minutes of game time to take control of the match early in the second half and seal the win. The Broncos added their final goal in the 88th minute.
The Beavs return to Lorenz Field for the home opener on Thursday at 2 p.m. against UC San Diego. Fans are encouraged to wear orange for the first match of the year.
