August 12, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State volleyball competed in its annual Black and Orange scrimmage on Saturday, which was won by the Orange team after a pair of sets clinched the aggregate score of 74-62.
"The team looked ready to go to compete at a high level," said head coach Lindsey Behonick. "The energy was great and I was glad to see our players in multiple positions and excel in those. It's been great to see the competitiveness outside of practice and see that we have players that can take big swings in big moments. I am very pleased in the team's progression to this point."
Fans inside Gill were treated to a double-doubles from Amanda Burns (14 assists/10 kills) and Mychael Vernon (15 kills/11 assists), who paced the Orange team. Lauren Rumel also added 11 kills and seven digs while Ryan White led Orange with 19 digs.
For the Black team, Peyton Suess and Kinley Swan led the way with 10 attacks apiece, while Elizabeth Schuster contributed 27 assists. Keira Herron had a team-leading 13 digs while Iris Cova and Suess each contributed eight.
The Orange team took control of the first set with a 25-21 win behind Vernon's nine kills and another nine – three each - from a trio of Burns, Doga Diraz and Rumel. Megan Sheridan's four kills led the Black squad with three from Suess. Schuster had six of her assists to keep the set close for her team.
Clinching the scrimmage's victory, White used seven digs in the second set to push Orange to the 25-21 win before Black took the final one with a wire-to-wire win at 25-22.
