Volleyball Adds Rumel Ahead of 2023 Season
June 13, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State volleyball team has made an addition ahead of the 2023 season as announced by head coach Lindsey Behonick.
Making the move to Corvallis from Pac-12 foe, Arizona, Lauren Rumel will join the Beavers with three years of eligibility.
Lauren Rumel
Outside Hitter | 6-2 | Tucson, Ariz. (Arizona)
Seeing action in 18 matches across 37 sets and four starts, the Tucson, Arizona, native made an impact early in her lone season with the Wildcats. Â She amassed season-bests in total attacks (19), kills (seven) and blocks (four) in the five-set home victory over Washington in November. Rumel recorded three kills and a pair of blocks in a neutral site, four-set win over Wake Forest. In just her sixth career match, she served a best-two aces in a straight-set win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Over the course of the season, she totaled 32 kills and a dozen blocks.
Prior to Arizona, she starred as a high school student-athlete, leading all of Arizona's divisions with 628 in her senior year.
What Coach Behonick is saying: "I am thrilled Lauren Rumel has committed to Oregon State. She brings a work ethic and dedication to training that we know will elevate our gym. Lauren already has experience competing in the Pac-12, knows what it takes to be great at this level, and has trained in every attacking position across the front row. We are excited to utilize her versatile arm and showcase her all-around game as a pin hitter. During Lauren's recruiting process, we got to know her family and we love when we there are ties to Oregon State. Her mom, Tiffany, was a student-trainer for the volleyball team her senior year of college here at OSU. We know this is a perfect fit and are excited to add another Rumel to the Beaver family!"
