Beavers Bow Out in Tucson
May 11, 2023 | Softball
TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Oregon State softball team fell to Washington by a 1-0 score in the quarterfinals of the inaugural Pac-12 Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
Following a 1-2-3 first, the Beavers (15-29-1) threatened early with a runner on third in the second. Carson Saabye, pinch running for Frankie Hammoude, but could not make it the last 60 feet needed to score first.
Washington took advantage of the Beavers' misfortune and used a no-doubt home run to left-center for the game's first – and only - run on the second pitch of the frame.
Ellie Garcia, the game's starter, tossed 3.1 frames and was charged with the loss. She gave up three hits – including the home run – and struck out a pair. Tarni Stepto punched out a pair and allowed a free pass to first in the game's last 2.2 innings. In her final outing of her career, Stepto allowed just one baserunner during her stint inside the circle.
Hammoude, Kaiea Higa and Erin Mendoza all collected singles to lead the Beaver offense.
With the result, the Beavers see their season end at Hillenbrand Stadium.
