Beavs Close Weekend in Bay with Wins
April 02, 2023 | Men's Rowing
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Oregon State overcame Saturday morning struggles to pick up wins over Santa Clara and Temple in the Stanford Invitational.
The no. 17 Beavs rebounded from losses to no. 13 Stanford on Saturday morning to win the 2V and 3V4s over no. 20 Temple on Saturday afternoon before sweeping no. 25 Santa Clara on Sunday.
"This was a whirlwind of a weekend, both literally and figuratively. With three races in 24 hours, you are either going to or coming from a race, each one with its own emotions. Taking six of the 10 races is a success but the tight (0.5 second) loss vs Temple stings a bit. But this is why you train and why you prepare to not have that happen again. We ended it on a high note this morning but there are bigger things on the horizon," head coach Gabe Winkler said.
The 2V group posted one of its stronger results of the young season, knocking off Temple for OSU's first win of the weekend before defeating Santa Clara to close the Invitational on Sunday.
The Beaver 3V group broke up into fours on Saturday afternoon, sweeping both over Santa Clara. The A group blew out the Broncos with a near-12 second victory while the B squad gutted out a 2.8-second win.
On Sunday the Varsity 8 picked up its first win of the weekend, a 12.6-second triumph over Santa Clara. The 2V won its second race of the Stanford Invite with a four-second victory over the Broncos to close the weekend.
Up next, the Beavs host Washington on Dexter Lake for its second Pac-12 competition of the year.
