Beavs Sweep Zags
March 26, 2023 | Men's Rowing
MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. – Oregon State Men's Rowing headed to the Inland Northwest for its first dual of the spring and came back with four victories, knocking off Gonzaga in all four races.
The Beavers earned come-from-behind victories in the Varsity Eight and 2V8 races before pulling away from the Zags in the 3V and 4V showdowns.
"There might have still been ice on the lake but that was melting with all the heat being thrown on the water," Oregon State head coach Gabe Winkler said. "That was extremely good racing for early spring. The Gonzaga coaching staff did a great job clearing the ice to get a full 2K race course in. The 3V and 4V showed our depth. The JV and Varsity races showed our toughness. Both boats had to come from behind to take the race. That is a test of composure and stamina. We now have a short spring break to up our fitness and skill for next week."
The Beavs Varsity Eight now own wins over Colgate, San Diego, Drexel and Gonzaga after knocking off the former three at the Lake Las Vegas Invite to open the season. The only team to beat the Beavs so far this season has been Cal, which won the 2022 IRA National Championships.
Up next, Oregon State heads to the Bay Area for the Stanford Invitational on April 1-2.
