Yeaney Nears Triple-Double, Assists Record in Loss

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Arizona State overcame a near triple-double- from Bendu Yeaney to knock off Oregon State 75-73 on Thursday night.

Yeaney finished just a rebound short of the Beavers' first triple-double since Sydney Wiese posted the fourth in school history in December of 2016. The Portland-native closed with 12 points, 13 assists and nine boards. She was two assists shy of the school record.

Five OSU players finished in double figures led by 14 each from freshmen Raegan Beers and Adlee Blacklock. Timea Gardiner finished with 13 points and eight rebounds while Jelena Mitrovic scored 11 and grabbed seven boards.

Oregon State had one of its best shooting halves of the year in the first 20 minutes. OSU made 57.1 percent of its shots in the opening half, getting eight points apiece from Beers and Gardiner at the break.

Yeaney was on triple-double-watch almost immediately, finishing the first quarter with four points, four rebounds and five assists. The senior paced a near-perfect offensive effort in the first quarter as the Beavs made 64.3 percent of their shots and half of their three-pointers.

Arizona State started to claw back after the break. The Sun Devils went on a 12-0 run late in the third quarter to close a 16-point gap to four late in the period. The Beavs held just a 50-45 advantage at the end of three.Â

The Sun Devils finished their move in the fourth. ASU did not have a major run in the period, simply outscoring the Beavs 30-23 in the final ten minutes. Arizona State shot 64.3 percent from the floor and made 4-of-5 three-pointers in the period.

The Beavers will be back at Gill Coliseum on Saturday at noon to honor Yeaney, Mitrovic and Noelle Mannen for senior night. Â
