Ruben Cedillo tallied two hits and Gavin Turley hit a home run in his first career at bat but Oregon State dropped a 7-2 decision to New Mexico Friday in the Beavers' 2023 opener. Cedillo singled in both the first and third innings, and ended the day 2-for-4. Fellow Oregon State newcomer Gavin Turley hit a solo home run in the second inning to net OSU its first run of the year. Brady Kasper also drove in a run for the Beavers on a double in the ninth.

• The Beavers are meeting the Golden Gophers for the 13th time all-time, and first since 2019. OSU leads the all-time series, 9-3, and is on an eight-game win streak.
• The Beavers and Golden Gophers met twice in 2019, and once in Surprise, a 13-1 OSU win. The teams met again at Safeco Field in Seattle, a 2-1 OSU win that was highlighted by an Adley Rutschman two-run home run.
• The Beavers did not strike out versus Minnesota in an 8-7 win in Surprise on Feb. 21, 2016. That remains the last time OSU accomplished that feat.
• OSU has won the last four games in the series by a 29-6 combined score.
• Mitch Canham needs 10 victories to reach 100 leading Oregon State.
• The Beavers return an All-American from 2022, Ben Ferrer, and three Freshmen All-Americans: Travis Bazzana, Jacob Kmatz and Ryan Brown. The Beavers lost All-Americans Cooper Hjerpe, Justin Boyd and Jacob Melton, who were all selected in the first two rounds of the MLB Draft.
