Beavers Down Two More Records at Don Kirby and Husky Classics
February 11, 2023 | Women's Track & Field
SEATTLE and ALBEQUERQUE – Keely McLaughlin and Anneke Moersdorf set new school records in the shot put and triple jump to highlight a strong second day at the Don Kirby and Husky Classics.
Â
McLaughlin outmuscled a 37-year-old record with a 48-foot, 11.5-inch shot put to open the day. She pushed past her previous career-high by seven inches. Moersdorf broke her own record with a triple jump with a 41-foot, 2.5-inch leap.
Â
The duo made it seven new indoor track and field records for the Beavers in 2023. Oregon State broke four records in just the past weekend with new marks in the 200 meters and long jump set on Friday.
Â
"This was a great weekend for us, maybe the best weekend in school history for both track and field to break four records and do it in convincing fashion," said head coach Louie Quintana. "Adael, Delaney, Keely and Anneke really had a weekend and we are so proud of them. Things are coming together and we are excited for the stretch run over the next couple weeks."
Â
In addition to McLaughlin, the Beavs had a strong distance day in Seattle. Grace Fetherstonhaugh improved her personal best in the mile, already the second-best mark in school history, with a 4:35.07. Christina Geisler also improved her PR with a 4:49.91.
Â
Meanwhile in Albuquerque, Chelsea Howard opened a good day for the sprints group with a 7.97 in the 60 meters to tie teammate Treasure Rinaldi for the no. 9 spot at OSU.
Â
Rinaldi then combined with Kylee Nelson, Ava Gross and Paige Sefried for the fifth best 4x400 meter time in school history, a 3:50.37. Oregon State has now posted three top-10 times this year with three different groups of athletes.
