Beavs Make it Eight in a Row

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State won its eighth straight game to open the 2023-24 women's basketball season, outpacing Santa Clara 80-52 on Friday.
The Beavs won the game with defense, holding the Broncos to 26.7 percent shooting from the floor and 22.7 percent from three. Santa Clara did not have any individual player shoot better than 50 percent.
Talia von Oelhoffen led the way for the Beavers, scoring 18 points with seven rebounds and seven more assists. The veteran guard paced OSU with a plus-minus of +28.
Raegan Beers recorded yet another double-double, the 21st of her young career in her 39th game. The sophomore finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. She also blocked three shots and had two steals. AJ Marotte rounded out the Beavs in double figure with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
The Beavs grabbed firm control of the game from its outset, holding Santa Clara to 17 percent shooting from the floor en route to a 21-7 first quarter. OSU opened the game on a 10-0 run with six points coming from AJ Marotte and never relinquished the double-digit lead.
The second quarter was more of the same, with Talia von Oelhoffen contributing nine points while Oregon State held the Broncos to 11 points on 29 percent shooting from the floor and a 1-for-5 period from three.
Oregon State slowed its pace in the second half a bit, but still won all four quarters. The Beavs won the third 20-15 and the fourth 22-19 to close the victory.
Six Beavers scored seven points or more with Sela Heide, Timea Gardiner and Kelsey Rees joining the three who scored 10+.
Up next, the Beavs head to Maui for the annual Maui Classic tournament. OSU opens the event on Tuesday against Southeastern Louisiana with a 9:30 p.m. PT tip time. The games will be livestreamed on the Oregon State Athletics YouTube with Ron Callan calling the action on the stream and radio.
