Oregon State to Make Exhibition Game Maui Wildfire Relief Donation Game
October 12, 2023 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State will provide fans with an opportunity to support Maui wildfire relief through donations to the non-profit Hope Chapel at its October 29 exhibition game  against Western Washington.
Â
The game, which is free this year as it has been in the past, will tip-off at 1:30pm. Fans will have a chance to support the community on Maui, which supports the Beavs each year at the annual Maui Classic, with an optional donation. Â The donations support Hope Chapel's emergency, short-term programs that help families in crisis as the community recovers from the wildfires.
Â
"One big part of our program is our Maui tournament, the Maui Classic. It's a longstanding relationship with the amazing people and community on Maui. Of course, tragedy struck this year, so we are providing an opportunity for our fans to donate to Maui support through Hope Chapel," Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck said. "This is a way for Beaver Nation to step up for the people of Maui."
Â
Oregon State will host the Maui Classic in 2023 for the seventh time with the location to be determined by the staff and OSU's local partners. The tournament is hosted by OSU and Vertical Sports Maui, a local non-profit that strives to inspire and equip youth through sports. Â
Â
Community service is an important part of the trip. The four participating teams volunteer with local schools to have put on basketball clinics, assemblies or reading programs depending on the needs for that year.
Â
The 2023 Maui Classic features Oregon State, Texas Tech, Tulsa and Southeastern Louisiana.
