Khrystenko Promoted to Associate Head Coach
August 25, 2022 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS –Anna Khrystenko has been promoted to Associate Head Coach ahead of the 2022 volleyball season, Oregon State head coach Mark Barnard announced Thursday.
Â
Khrystenko enters her third season with the Beavers, which begins with Friday's season opener against Long Beach State in Portland.
Â
"I was extremely excited to have Anna join our program three seasons ago. Anna's coaching and technical expertise is top-notch and her ability to recruit student athletes from around the world will strengthen this program over the coming years," Barnard said.
Â
As the primary coach of the Beaver defense, Khrystenko helped coach Grace Massey to All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors, making Massey the first Beaver to earn all-league honors in two straight seasons since 2016-17. She also helped develop middle blocker DiLara Unal, who averaged 0.96 blocks per set as a true freshman after Aliyah McDonald suffered a season-ending injury. Â
Â
In Khrystenko's first season at Oregon State, the Beavs went 5-13 against an All-Pac-12 schedule in the spring of 2021. She assisted in Massey being named to the Pac-12 All-Conference Team, while Mychael Vernon and Kateryna Tkachenko each earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors during the season. McDonald developed into a defensive and offensive force under Khrystenko's guidance with 0.69 blocks per set and a .239 hitting percentage in the middle.
Â
Prior to coaching the Beavers, Khrystenko coached at Rutgers and Florida State, working primarily as a coach for the defense and an international recruiter.
