
Oregon State Softball Leads the Pacific Region with Four Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oregon State softball placed four on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Pacific All-Region teams, announced Thursday. The Beavers led the Pacific Region with three first team accolades.
Senior Mariah Mazon, junior Frankie Hammoude and freshman Sarah Haendiges were named first team while freshman Kiki Escobar took home second team honors. The honorees were selected by a vote of NFCA member head coaches from each respective region.
Mazon's accolade marks the third nod of her lustrous Beaver career. Mazon leads the Beavers and is third amongst the Pac-12 with a 1.48 earned run average to go with a 14-10 record, one save and 192 strikeouts in 151.1 innings. She has circle appearances in 28 games, making 21 starts, posting 14 complete games with two solo shutouts. At the plate, Mazon's .785 slugging percentage is first on the team. She is second with nine home runs, nine doubles and a triple. With a .376 batting average, she is second with 31 runs batted in, adding 35 hits and 26 runs scored. A three-time Pac-12 Player of the Week, Mazon has allowed zero or one earned run in 19 of her appearances, reaching double-figure strikeouts six times. At the plate, she has hits in 19 of her 29 games with 10 double-digit hit games.
Haendiges is right behind Mazon in the conference with a 1.74 earned run average to go along with a 10-6 overall record in the circle in her first year donning the Orange & Black. The Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week is 28th in the nation with seven shutouts and her ERA places her No. 44 in the country. In 120.2 innings pitched, Haendiges has 124 strikeouts, having gone the distance in 10 of her 19 starts. The freshman has struck out a career-high nine batters on two occasions and has allowed zero or one earned run in 22 of her 31 appearances.
A back-to-back first team honoree, Hammoude is the team leader in walks with 32, home runs (13), runs batted in (35), and batting average (.391). She is second with 50 hits and a .742 slugging percentage and fourth with six doubles in 128 appearances at the plate. A Pac-12 Player of the Week, Hammoude is in the top-10 amongst the Pac-12 in six different statistical categories. She has seven multi-RBI contests this year, including a career-best seven at New Mexico State, and posted a hitting streaks of five, eight and five this season. Hammoude has scored a run in 19 games, including multiples three times. The infielder needs just two home runs during her career to move into second in the OSU home run record book.
In her breakout first season, Escobar is third amongst Pac-12 players with 67 hits. She leads Oregon State in total hits, 10 doubles and 10 stolen bases and is second with 35 runs scored and a .349 batting average. She has started in all 52 games this season for the Orange & Black, playing at three different positions this season, short stop, second and her first-career contest at third. The three-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week has hits in 37 of her 52 games, including a 10-game hitting streak from Feb. 13-26.
Oregon State appears in its 15th NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 20 to begin the Knoxville Regional against Ohio State at 1 p.m. PT. All action during the double-elimination regional weekend for the Beavers will take place at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium, hosted by No. 11 Tennessee. The winner of the Knoxville Regional will move on to the best-of-three NCAA Super Regional against the winner of the Tuscaloosa Regional.
