CORVALLIS, Ore. – Fans will have their first opportunity to get a look at the 2023 Oregon State gymnastics team tomorrow afternoon, as the squad hosts their annual intrasquad meet on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. inside Gill Coliseum.
"I saw some really great work from all of our gymnast today," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "They did a great job and I'm really excited. This is probably one of the best starts that we've had. I think it will carry over when we get started in January."
2022 Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year Jade Carey showcased routines in three of the four disciplines for the Beavers.
"It feels really good for all of us to be back in front of Beaver Nation again," Carey said. "It's great to have their support and get to compete as a team out on the floor. It was a great start. We have all the skills. We can make all the routines. It's going to be about us really hitting those handstands on bars and sticking those landings will help put us at the top."
After missing the 2022 season with an injury, Kristina Peterson made her triumphant return to Gill Coliseum, competing on beam and floor.
"It was a great feeling. It was definitely emotional but had to carry through and had a blast today." Peterson added on returning. "We've really taken the time this year to bond together and build relationships. We know how important it is to create a feeling of sisterhood. Our team motto is 'beat with one heart'. I can see it with this team. We really try to compete together as one heart."
Fifth-year Madi Dagen was one of two GymBeavs to complete the All-Around during the Orange & Black, putting together four routines that brought the Beaver faithful to their feet with each event.
"We have a foundation now and we can build from there," Dagan said. "I saw so much love and fire in people's eyes today, which is great to see so early on. I'm really excited to see where we go."
The Beavs are set to open the regular season on Friday, Jan. 6 with a meet and location to be named early next week.
The 2023 home schedule features five opportunities to see the GymBeavs, including four opponents ranked inside the Top 25 of the WCGA Preseason Poll that was released earlier today.
