Oregon State Falls in Final Stanford Game
May 02, 2021 | Softball
STANFORD, Calif. - The Oregon State softball team fell to Stanford in the final game of the 2021 series, Sunday.
Â
"We had a tough weekend," said head coach Laura Berg. "The team hit well today, they just hit right at [the fielders]."
Â
Junior Missy Nunes hit the first single of the day in the first inning. Junior Mariah Mazon followed with a hit to the same location and got on base from the result of a fielding error.
Â
In the first and second innings, the Cardinal put a runner on base but Oregon State halted their advance at first. Stanford took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third with an unearned run.
Â
OSU put together a couple of good connections but the Cardinal defense would not allow the Beavers to get on base throughout the second, third, and fourth innings.
Â
In the fifth, junior Chance Burden put together a long at-bat with nine foul balls eventually drawing a walk to gain a base but Oregon State was unable to take advantage of the runner.
Â
The Cardinal followed with a second run in the bottom of the inning.
Â
Nunes hit the second, and final, Beavers single in the sixth. Mazon followed with a connection but Stanford went for the force out at second. Hammoude drew a walk to put a second runner on base but Stanford struck out the final OSU batter to leave two stranded.
Â
Oregon State went three up, three down in the sixth but was unable to get on base and score in the final inning.Â
Â
Mazon threw a complete game, collecting five strikeouts in six innings pitched. She allowed one walk, one earned run, and four hits.Â
Â
The Beavers will return home for their final regular-season series at Kelly Field. OSU will host Arizona State for their senior series (May 7-9).
