Beavers Fall to Cardinal
February 13, 2021 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's basketball fell to No. 5 Stanford 83-58 in a hard-fought contest Saturday evening at Gill Coliseum.
Â
"It was great to be back out there," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "Stanford played a great game. I loved the way that we competed, and the way we showed up ready to play after a weekend off and not a lot of practice. I can't say enough about this team and I couldn't be more proud of them. For a large part of this game we showed what we are capable of – we just weren't able to finish it."
Â
Taylor Jones recorded her fourth double-double of the season, going for 13 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks. Sasha Goforth led the Beavers with 16 points, along with five rebounds.
Â
Aleah Goodman finished the contest with 12 points and four rebounds, while Taya Corosdale blocked three shots.
Â
Stanford jumped out to an early lead, but Oregon State answered with 10 unanswered points to go in front 14-11 at the mid-way point of the first quarter. The Cardinal led 23-18 after the opening frame.
Â
Stanford led the majority of the second quarter, before the Beavers leveled the score at 40 two minutes before the break. The Cardinal went to the locker room up 43-40.
Â
Jones went for 12 points and seven rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.
Â
The two sides continued to trade buckets through the early parts of the third quarter, with the Cardinal taking a 52-48 edge into the period's media timeout. Stanford headed to the fourth in front 60-52.
Â
The Cardinal was able to take the win by 25.
Â
The Beavers will return to action Friday when they face USC in Los Angeles.
