February 19, 2021 | Women's Basketball
Oregon State never trailed, shot 54.2 percent from the floor
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Oregon State women's basketball team blew past USC Friday afternoon, taking down the Trojans 77-52 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
Â
"This game was a lot of fun," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "We've been waiting to put together a defensive performance like that. Getting consecutive games, as scheduled was important for us, and when we have had those opportunities this year we have seen growth. I think today was a huge step forward for us. I couldn't be happier for this group."
Â
Freshman Talia von Oelhoffen led the Beavers with 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the floor. Senior Aleah Goodman went 6-for-9 from the floor to finish with 17 points.
Â
Taylor Jones pulled down 13 rebounds to go along with nine points and one block. Ellie Mack tallied 12 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.
Â
As a team the Beavers shot 54.2 percent from the floor and 64.3 percent from beyond the arc. OSU out-rebounded the Trojans 44-25.
Â
Oregon State jumped out to a nine-point lead at 18-9 in middle of the first quarter. The Beavers headed to the second in front 21-16 after a buzzer-beating three-quarter court shot from Goodman.
Â
OSU added to its advantage, going in front by eight five minutes before the intermission. The Beaver defense clamped down heading into the half, as the Trojans were held without a field goal for a stretch of over five minutes to head to the locker room in front 37-23.
Â
The two sides traded punches early in the third quarter. The Beavers maintained a double-digit advantage through most of the period, heading to the closing frame in front 53-38.
Â
Oregon State continued to add to the lead from there, going in front by as many as 29 on its way to a 25-point win. OSU never trailed in the contest.
Â
The Beavers will head to Westwood Sunday for a matchup with No. 8 UCLA.
