Beavers End Season Ranked No. 15

SEASON WRAP-UP
With the abrupt finish to the 2020 season, Oregon State (8-7) ended the year ranked No. 15 in the nation.
RETURNING FOR 2021
The Beavers are slated to return 10 letterwinners in 2021 including 12 out of 24 routines from the final meet of the 2020 season.
• The breakdown of returning routines looks like this: vault (Kayla Bird, Madi Dagen, Kristina Peterson and Kaitlyn Yanish); uneven bars (Bird and Colette Yamaoka); balance beam (Dagen and Jenna Domingo); and floor exercise (Dagen, Savanna Force, Peterson and Yanish).
• In addition to 12 returning routines, the Beavers also get a pair of gymnasts back from injury. Redshirt junior Lena Greene, who performed all-around at the Orange & Black Exhibition, and freshman Jane Poniewaz, were both expected to perform in multiple lineups each suffered season-ending injuries during the preseason. In addition, sophomore Alex McClung, who did not compete this year, will continue to provide depth and push for a position in lineups.
• OSU has one All-American coming back in 2021 in Kaitlyn Yanish. Yanish earned Regular Season All-America honors on the floor exercise in 2018 and 2019 by the Women's College Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
ALL-CONFERENCE
Two OSU gymnasts, Kaitlyn Yanish and Madi Dagen, were part of the Pac-12's All-Conference teams were announced. It is the third consecutive season, Yanish has earned all-conference honors. She finished the season with an NQS of 9.915 on the floor exercise to tie for seventh in the Pac-12. For Dagen, it is her second all-conference honor wrapping up the year with an NQS of 9.885 on the balance beam.
ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS
Eleven Oregon State gymnasts made the Pac-12's Winter Academic Honor Roll. Halli Briscoe (Master's in Organizational Leadership), Lacy Dagen (Sociology), Madi Dagen (Digital Communication Arts), Savanna Force (Kinesiology), Lexie Gonzales (Digital Communication Arts), Lena Greene (Bioengineering), Jaime Law (Design & Innovation Management), Maela Lazaro (BioHealth Sciences), Isis Lowery (Human Development and Family Sciences), Kristina Peterson (Human Development and Family Sciences) and Colette Yamaoka (Biology) were the 2020 honorees. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a 3.30 cumulative GPA and a minimum of one-year residency at the institution.
QUICK STICKS
• All four of OSU's lineups finished the season ranked among the top 30 in the nation. The floor exercise (49.345 National Qualifying Score) and balance beam (49.270) lineups are the highest ranked for the Beavers with both at No. 11. Vault (49.000) is ranked at No. 27 and uneven bars (49.045) is tied for 27th.
• Oregon State 'hit' 225 out of 240 (93.8%) routines in 2020 ... in comparison, the Beavers 'hit' 313 out of 336 (93.2%) routines in 2019.
• OSU's routine production breakdown looked like this: seniors performed 105 of 240 routines in 2020 (43.8%), sophomores 50 of 240 (20.8%), juniors have produced 48 of 240 (20.0%) and freshmen 37 of 240 (15.4%).
• Oregon State hit 24-for-24 twice in 2020 - at Arizona, at California and against Washington.
• OSU counted falls in three meets in 2020 - against Seattle Pacific and Centenary (bars), at Sacramento State (bars), and at Utah (beam).
• The Beavers finished the season having 'hit' 71 out of their last 72 routines.
• Oregon State opened the season on the road for the fourth straight year
• Eleven of OSU's 15 regular season opponents on the 2020 schedule finished the year ranked in the top 36, including six in the top 12.
• The gymnastics team posted a 3.5440 grade point average during the winter term ... ten gymnasts earned OSU honor roll with winter term GPAs of 3.5 or better.
• With the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down the season, OSU did not conduct its annual Senior Day.
SUPER SENIORS
• OSU has eight seniors on the roster consisting of Halli Briscoe, Lacy Dagen, Destinee Davis, Sabrina Gill, Jaime Law, Maela Lazaro, Isis Lowery and Alyssa Minyard.
• The senior class performed 105 out of the Beavers' 240 routines (43.8%) in 2020, including half of the team's routines against Washington, the final meet of the season ... for their careers the group combined to hit 352 out of 376 career routines (93.5%).
• All eight seniors are on target to graduate this spring with the exception of Halli Briscoe, who earned her undergraduate degree in business administration and entrepreneurship last June needing just three years. Briscoe will finish her MBA in organizational leadership this June. Here are the rest of the seniors fields of study: Lacy Dagen (sociology), Destinee Davis (digital communication arts), Sabrina Gill (digital communication arts), Jaime Law (design & innovation management in OSU's Honors College), Maela Lazaro (BioHealth sciences with a pre-pharmacy option), Isis Lowery (human development and family science) and Alyssa Minyard (biochemistry & molecular biology with a pre-med option).
IT'S WAS A TEAM EFFORT
• The Beavers made it a habit in 2020 to use a full complement of gymnasts to complete their 24 routines. OSU used as many as 15 gymnasts four times - at the Critique Classic, vs. Seattle Pacific & Centenary, at Arizona and against Stanford.
• In all, 16 of the Beavers 20 gymnasts performed in the competition lineup in 2020 ... Lena Greene and Jane Poniewaz, who suffered season-ending injuries prior to the season starting, both likely would have held more than one lineup spot.
• The Beavers had an all-arounder only twice in 2020. Freshman Kayla Bird performed in the all-around in the season-opener at the Critique Classic Invitational and then last week senior Sabrina Gill made her first all-around appearance in more than two years. Ironically, Gill made her floor debut filling in for Bird, who was feeling under the weather. Gill opened the 2018 season as an all-arounder competing on all four events six times, with the most recent coming Feb. 25, 2018 at UCLA.
PERFECT SEASON

DAGEN DUO
• Sisters Lacy Dagen and Madi Dagen combined to hit their first 31 routines of the season ... combined they 'hit' 44 out of 48 routines in 2020.
• Lacy posted a career-best 9.975 on the beam against Stanford to win the the event title and lead the team to a season-best 49.375 on the event ... she collected two event titles in 2020.
• Madi secured her first event title of the season against Stanford scoring a career-high 9.90 on the vault completing the first Yurchenko 1 1/2 of her career ... she secured four event titles in 2020, including three at California (2/22).
COACH CHAPLIN RETURNS FROM LEAVE
On Jan. 30, head coach Tanya Chaplin announced she would take an indefinite leave of absence due to health-related issues. Former OSU All-American Mandi Rodriguez has returned to the program to fill in as the acting assistant coach during her absence.
Associate head coach Michael Chaplin filled in as the acting head coach during her absence.
Tanya Chaplin announced her return to full duties on April 1.
LOADING UP FOR 2020
The Oregon State coaching staff has lined up commitments from seven gymnasts to join the program. Sydney Gonzales (Newport Beach, Calif.), Kaitlyn Hoiland (Kent, Wash.), Grace Johnson (North Bend, Wash.), Julia Melchert (Puyallup, Wash.), Anna Yeates (Roseville, Calif.) and Ariana Young (San Mateo, Calif.) are scheduled to enroll at Oregon State this coming summer. In addition, 2018 signee Jade Carey (Phoenix, Ariz.), who had deferred her enrollment to train for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, intends to enroll for summer term as well.
