Beavers Secure Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year for 2020

CORVALLIS, Ore. – All-state setter and Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year Izzi Szulczewski has officially joined the Oregon State volleyball program, head coach Mark Barnard announced on Monday.
Szulczewski, who will be part of the first graduating class from Mountainside High School in Beaverton, Ore., joins the Beavers after playing her club volleyball at North Pacific Juniors where she has been a teammate of current OSU defensive specialist Taylor Quinn.
"Izzi is a very athletic setter who have been able to watch develop over the past three years," Barnard said. "She has made remarkable improvements in the last club season and is more than capable of stepping in and fighting for a starting spot as a freshman. Izzi has great court sense and the ability to run a consistent offense. While smaller in stature, she is an excellent jumper who can more than hold her own in the front court."
A four-year varsity starter at Mountainside, Szulczewski was twice chosen to the All-Metro League First Team and twice to the Second Team. As a senior in 2019, she was named as the Metro League Player of the Year en route to first team all-state honors and was named as the Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year. The four-time team MVP was also a second team all-state selection as a junior.
Playing club for North Pacific Juniors, Szulczewski played for the top 18s team helping her squad qualify to nationals where they finished 21st in the nation in 2019.
