Beavers Beat Buffs in Pac-12 Opener

Goodman scores 24 in win
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 17 Oregon State Women's Basketball team was victorious in its Pac-12 opener on Sunday, defeating the Colorado Buffaloes 70-53.
"This was a great win," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "Pac-12 wins are always good, and I was really pleased with the way we played. Our team got better from game two to game three. We played the defense that we need to win in this conference. We had big performances throughout our roster. There was really nothing negative today, and I'm proud of the way we prepared and the way we played."
Senior Aleah Goodman exploded for 24 points on 8-for-13 shooting, and dished out four assists. Sasha Goforth and Ellie Mack tallied 11 points apiece.
Jasmine Simmons tallied eight points off the bench, as she continued her hot start to the season. Taya Corosdale filled the stat sheet with four points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Jelena Mitrovic pulled down 12 rebounds.
Oregon State held Colorado to 29.2 percent shooting in the contest, and shot 41.8 percent from the floor.
The Beavers got out of the gate quickly, making three pointers on each of their first three baskets and winning the battle on the glass. Oregon State took a 20-15 lead after one.
In the second quarter, it was more of the same from Oregon State. They held Colorado to just 30 percent from the field and never trailed throughout the first half. Leading the Beavers' scoring was Goodman, whose 15 points were most by any player on either team. Corosdale added four points and five rebounds, as the Beavers led 34-26 at the break.
Once the second half began, Goforth started rolling offensively. She scored seven of her 11 points the third quarter, and Goodman continued to make shots as the Beavers took a 17-point lead into the start of the fourth.
After four quarters, it was the Beavers who won by 17.
Oregon State's next game is Tues., Dec. 8, at Gill Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
