Get to Know Morgan Allen
January 15, 2020 | Softball
As the 2020 season continues to approach, meet another newcomer to the Oregon State softball roster, Morgan Allen. Morgan (Mo to her teammates) is a junior transfer from the University of Washington that is a utility player for the Beavers.
What is your favorite thing about Oregon State?
The atmosphere. From my very first day I felt welcomed and valued not only as a player but as a person. As a newcomer it can be scary but my teammates and coaches made me feel right at home.
How would you describe what it's like playing for Coach Berg and her staff?
A dream. As a player I couldn't ask for a better opportunity to play for someone with the experience and knowledge of the game, like Coach Berg. This staff cares about every single player on this team and is truly committed to helping and improving every player on and off the field. I could feel it the moment I got here.
At what age did you know you wanted to play softball in college? What made you realize that?
I decided I wanted to play college softball when I was a freshman in high school. I was a little later than some girls because I played two sports (softball and basketball), and I loved both of them. What made me realize that I wanted to play softball was my coaches, Shawna Wright and Jameel Cante, and of course my dad.
What is your major and what do you enjoy about it?
I am a Liberal Studies major with a focus in development through sport. I love my major because I am able to shape it into whatever I want it to be. I get to pick my disciplines and basically create my own major. For my disciplines I chose cultural diversity anthropology, sociology and women's gender studies.
Who has had the biggest influence on your softball career?
That is hard to answer. So many different people have played different roles that were huge throughout my career. I know that I would not be the player I am today without my 10u-14u travel ball coach Randy Seidlitz. When I was young and didn't believe in myself, he was the one who pushed me and gave me confidence in myself. He saw something in me that I didn't. I could never thank him enough.
What athlete did you idolize growing up?
Shawna Wright. I was a catcher when I was younger and got to take lessons from her. I became a huge fan! Little did I know that a few years later she would become my coach for four years.
Which of your teammates do you think is the funniest?
Oh man, there's so many that make me laugh every day, but I think Missy (Nunes) almost on a daily basis can make me laugh to the point of tears. She just is unapologetically herself and says or does things that crack me up.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Alaska. My dad grew up in Alaska and my oldest brother currently lives there. I grew up in a family where snow and winter meant fun time. Snowboarding, hunting, snowmobiles and four wheeling are huge in Alaska and that's how I love to live. Plus I just love the cold.
What actress would you have play you in a movie about your life?
Megan Fox
Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
I take a moment or two before the start of each game to pray.
If you could have dinner with any person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
BILLIE EILISH. I am a huge fan of hers. I have connected with her music so much and would love to be able to talk to her about the messages in her music. She also is unapologetically herself, and I love that about her.
Oregon State opens the 2020 season on February 7-9 against Southern Utah, UNLV and CSUN in Las Vegas, Nev.
