SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State junior libero Grace Massey has been named as the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week the Conference following last week's 2-0 start to the league season the conference announced Monday.
Massey, who studies management, anchored the Beavers' back row defense collecting a career-high 32 digs and added a pair of aces as OSU knocked off then-No. 24 Oregon in five sets on Thursday night. It was the first Civil War win for the Beavers since 2014.
The Beaverton, Ore., native continued to pass at an elite level in Friday's four-set win over Colorado accumulating 11 digs, while serving another ace and dealing three assists.
Massey's efforts helped lead Oregon State to its first 2-0 start in conference play since 2004.
It is Massey's fourth career defensive player of the week award and is the Beavers' first of the season.
OSU is back in action this week to host No. 19 California on Friday and No. 3 Stanford on Saturday at Gill Coliseum. Both matches are slated for 6 p.m. first serve.
